Motion is one of Bristol’s most recognised and celebrated music venues, renowned nationally for its industrial character, waterside setting and world-class events. Occupying a former warehouse complex alongside the River Avon, the venue has become an iconic part of the city’s cultural landscape and nightlife.
As plans progressed to support the venue’s future reopening after a change of location, an accurate digital representation of the existing buildings was required to provide architects and design teams with reliable information for planning and design.
Surveybase were appointed to undertake a comprehensive 3D BIM survey alongside a drone survey of the site. High-accuracy laser scanning captured the existing structures in detail, while drone operations provided aerial imagery and valuable roof-level information that would have been difficult to obtain safely from the ground.
The collected data was processed into a detailed 3D Revit BIM model delivered to our LOD 4 External and LOD3 internal standard, providing a coordinated digital asset that accurately represents the existing building and its surrounding environment. Combining terrestrial laser scanning with aerial data ensured a complete understanding of the site, helping designers make informed decisions while reducing the need for repeat site visits.
