The Office for National Statistics (ONS) Newport headquarters serves as a key hub for collecting and analysing vital economic and social data across the UK.
As part of a major refurbishment initiative, the ONS required a detailed and accurate 3D BIM Survey to support their planning efforts.
Surveybase successfully delivered a comprehensive 3D BIM model to the client, following the LOD4 specification for façades and LOD3 for internal modelling. This included all MEP systems, switches, sockets, and decorative panelling, ensuring a complete representation of the building’s structure and infrastructure.
With over 3,000 employees working in the headquarters, the project presented several challenges, including complex glass partitions, compartmentalised meeting spaces and offices, large plant rooms, and limited access to the roof. To address these, Surveybase carried out out-of-hours surveys to minimise disruption to staff, while deploying UAV drones to safely and thoroughly survey the external roof, which would otherwise have been difficult to access.
