Now entering a new chapter, the partly locally listed building is being redeveloped into modern commercial space and up to 306 residential flats. While the interior has been completely stripped out, the iconic concave frontage remains, preserving a key piece of the city’s architectural heritage.

Surveybase were appointed to deliver a Measured Building and Topographical Survey. This provided the client with an accurate 2D floor plans, elevations, sections, roof and site plan.

This marks the second time Surveybase has undertaken a measured survey of Beatties, having first surveyed the site in 2019 while the department store was still operational.

Jordan King, Managing Director, commented:

“It’s fantastic to be back surveying Beatties. The building is at the heart of the community, and many locals took time to discuss with our Surveyors the importance the building played through services, jobs, and keeping the city centre vibrant. The strip-out has been significant, but we’re so pleased to see the vision moving forward.”

Beatties presented unique challenges with significant health and safety challenges posed by the building’s current condition. To overcome these, Surveybase deployed advanced surveying technology including a drone, to ensure precise data collection with minimal disruption to day-to-day operations.

This project underscores Surveybase’s commitment to delivering high-quality, cutting-edge surveying services for the commercial sector.
