Barclays House located in Poole, was constructed between 1972 and 1975 by Barclays bank to decentralise operations from London due to escalating costs and to boost local employment in Poole.
The buildings distinctive design includes three interconnected octagonal wings, a prominent feature of Poole’s skyline. The building had a 14-foot-tall eagle (Barclays Bank logo), crafted from 1-inch thick aluminium. Inside, the building offers over half a million square feet of office space along with a 1100-space car park. Standing at nine stories high, it has been a busy office centre for nearly five decades until its sale in 2023.
In consultation with the client, the site survey was tailored to meet the site and project programme schedule. The survey was undertaken in two phases, pre and post strip-out delivering detailed 2D floor plans and sections.
Plans have been revealed to convert Barclays House into a residential complex featuring 362 flats. The project will involve detailed structural assessments and careful refurbishments to ensure the building meets residential standards while preserving its unique architectural charm.
